Personal Support Worker

The core responsibilities of a PSW center on supporting a client's basic needs and promoting independence. These duties are crucial for maintaining physical health and emotional well-being.

Personal Hygiene and Comfort: Assisting clients with personal hygiene tasks such as bathing, grooming, and dressing. This requires sensitivity, respect and strict adherence to Infection prevention and control protocols.

Dementia Care: Maintain a structured, safe environment while delivering empathetic support to meet evolving needs. Key strategies include clear communication, consistent routines, and access to resources such as adult day programs and respite care.

Mobility and Safety: Safely assisting clients with movement, transfers, and positioning. PSWs are trained to use standard safety equipment and follow strict safety procedures to prevent falls, making the client environment secure.

Nutrition and Special Diets: Monitoring Nutrition, assisting with feeding, and preparing and serving special diets as prescribed by the health care providers. PSWs also monitor fluid intake and output and other vital signs like blood pressure.

Home Management and Support: In home care settings and private households, PSWs often assist with light home management tasks to ensure the client's living area is clean, safe, and organized. They are also invaluable as respite worker for families.
